Since 2000 Virginia Business has worked with the Virginia Bar Association in preparing the Legal Elite, an annual list of top lawyers in fifteen specialties as voted by their peers. This year the pool of voters was expanded from 7,000 lawyers to all 38,000 licensed lawyers in the state, which increased the response rate by 38.5 percent from last year. This had a direct impact on the increase of lawyers nominated for the list, the scores needed to be included, and the competition
