  • Experienced, trained arbitrator with experience working singly and on panels in complex civil cases.  Experience with ICC International Court of Arbitration and American Arbitration Association.
  • Experienced, successful mediator since 1996; Va. Supreme Court certified since 1997
  • Developed nationally acclaimed program for case management and alternative dispute resolution to reduce delays and costs in litigation.
  • Former Adjunct Professor, The George Washington University.
  • Lecturer and panelist at various local, state, national and international legal seminars on civil, criminal, family and case management topics.
  • Served on various sate commissions and legislative study groups relating to legal reforms by appointment of Governor Linwood Holton, Governor Mills Godwin, and former Chief Justice Harry Carrico.
  • Twice named "Outstanding Judge" by Washingtonian Magazine.
  • Judge, 19th  Judicial District Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court of Fairfax, 1968-76; Chief Judge, 1975-76.
  • Recipient of the 2001 Human Rights Award from the Fairfax County Human Rights Commission; recognized for insertion of human rights principles in the administration of justice in Fairfax County.
  • First recipient of the Fairfax County Bar Association's  Arnold Kassabian Award for outstanding contributions to juvenile and family law. Recipient of Judicial Service Award from Old Dominion Bar Association. Recipient of the Warren Burger Healer Award, National Council on Children's Rights.
  • A founder of Fairfax County Legal Aid Program and its first Legal Aid Attorney; one of the first legal aid lawyers in Virginia, 1966.
