Areas of Experience
Cynthia R. Mabry-King is a member of the International Ombuds Association and a certified mediator. She was a Circuit Mediator for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from 2015 to September 2022. As a Circuit Mediator, Mabry-King facilitated settlement discussions in hundreds of complex disputes including employment matters regarding discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination. In addition, she developed a reputation for compassionate and skilled facilitation of internal employment disputes. She was a civil litigator before she became tenured at three law schools: West Virginia University College of Law, Washington & Lee School of Law, and Howard University School of Law. In a span of twenty years in academia, Cynthia served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, director of a graduate certificate program, and faculty member. She has trained mediators nationally and internationally and has amassed nearly two hundred hours of mediation training. Mabry-King has received many awards including the International Association of Top Professionals’ Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 and its Mediator of the Year Award in 2019 and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s 2015 Angel in Adoption Award. Mabry-King is a graduate of New York University’s Master of Laws program and of Howard University’s Juris Doctor program.
