Virginia Supreme Court Senior Justice Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr., a Neutral with The McCammon Group, was awarded the Ted Dalton American Inn of Court Professionalism Award on April 20 in Salem. This award honors the memories of Professor Roger D. Groot, attorney Oliver W. Hill, Sr., and U.S. District Judge James C. Turk. The award was established to pay homage to competence, civility, professionalism, and ethics in the legal world.

Senior Justice Koontz served the Supreme Court of Virginia with distinction for more than a decade.  Prior to his service on the high court, he spent several years as the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Virginia, the Judge of the Twenty-third Judicial Circuit Court, and the Chief Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in the Twenty-third Judicial Circuit.

Senior Justice Koontz is a past President of the Ted Dalton American Inn of Court, the Virginia Juvenile Judges Association, and the Roanoke Valley Mental Health Association.  He is also a former Member of the Judicial Council of Virginia and the Board of Governors of the Family Law Section of the Virginia State Bar.

Since 1995, The McCammon Group has provided alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services including mediation, arbitration, neutral evaluation, special master, judge pro tempore, med/arb, neutral evaluation, hearing officer, fact finder, and conciliation; as well as related facilitation, training, and consulting services.  It consists of seventy-seven Neutrals including retired judges and practicing attorneys located throughout Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland.  Importantly, throughout this time The McCammon Group has achieved a settlement rate of approximately 85% in its mediation work.  The McCammon Group is committed to the proposition that ADR processes provide individuals, as well as public and private entities, with many substantial benefits including effective and prompt resolution of disputes, self-determination, cost savings, timeliness, flexibility, and confidentiality.
